1901

ESTABLISHMENT OF THE ASSOCIATION

The East Asian Association Bremen was founded on 17 January 1901. For the official founding ceremony, twelve distinguished Bremen merchants met in the “Alt-Bremer Haus” wine bar in the Essighaus on Langenstrasse. The gentlemen present had previously spent many years in East Asia and become familiar with the companionable club life there, among other things. Back in Germany, the founders wanted to establish an association based on this tradition to preserve the memory of their time in the Far East and to keep up and foster relations with that region.
