This motto of the Hanseatic merchants, carved into the arched portal of the Bremen Chamber of Commerce in 1899, has been followed by many people from Bremen over the centuries.

They set out on adventurous journeys to the Far East to discover new regions.

ABOUT US

Founded by people returning from Asia, the Ostasiatischer Verein has been promoting a society shaped by tolerance and international understanding since 1901.

HISTORY

From the first trade relations through the colonial era to the present day: our ties with Asia have changed considerably over time.

HILFSWERK OSTASIEN

We maintain and expand our connections with the Far East through Hilfswerk Ostasien e. V. and through scholarships for young people.

EVENTS

Whether it is our traditional Foundation Day celebration or our regular curry dinner: sharing experiences with one another is a cornerstone of our association’s life.

MEMBERS

When the association was founded, it was mainly merchants and ship captains who built the bridge to Asia. Over the decades, they have been joined by scientists, engineers, service providers and private individuals with a strong connection to Asia. We are currently delighted to have 500 active members, including 100 companies and 400 private individuals.
